The Electric Car Guides

UPDATE 23/12/16 from author Michael Boxwell

It’s the end of an era, folks. We’ve decided that we won’t be doing a 2017 edition of the Electric Car Guide in book form. Since our first edition in 2010, we’ve been creating a yearly guide to show people what it is like to own and use an electric car. We wanted to dispel a lot of the myths and misinformation of electric car ownership that were floating around on the internet.

The myths and the misinformation are still there, but today, far more people understand for themselves what the benefit of electric car ownership is.

I remain very happy with what I have achieved with the guides. They have undoubtedly helped a lot of people understand the benefits of electric cars and many electric cars have been sold as a result.

I’ve been driving electric cars for over ten years now, and the industry is in a very different place now to where it was six and a half years ago when the first edition of the book appeared. It is a very exciting industry to be involved with, and I will remain actively involved on the technology side with new EV battery developments and concepts.

The 2016 edition of the Electric Car Guide will remain available for a few months more, and of course the individual books for the Nissan LEAF and the Mitsubishi iMIEV will remain available.

The only book of its kind currently on the market, The Electric Car Guide has been significantly updated for 2016. Issues covered by this book include the practical implications of owning and driving electric cars; the purchasing and running costs involved; detailed descriptions of the various car models available; and a guide to buying used electric cars.  It also explores the environmental implications and includes some unique ‘real world’ fuel economy figures compared with those for cars with combustion engines. With a foreword by electric car enthusiast, comic actor and presenter Robert Llewellyn, and interactive links to the author’s website, http://www.theelectriccarguide.net/, which comes with free environmental carbon footprint apps, the book is an indispensable guide to anyone interested in owning an electric car.

“The book also look at the environmental benefits of electric cars, contains a directory of all the electric cars you can buy today and contains testimonies from other electric car owners”, Michael adds.

Electric cars have now entered the mainstream, particularly with the Tesla Model S – which now outsells premium models from BMW, Audi and Mercedes – and the Nissan LEAF. And with over 400,000 pre-orders for the hotly awaited Tesla Model 3, the buying public are clearly saying that electric cars are both practical and desirable.

Motoring writer Michael Boxwell is a best-selling environmental and technology author and speaker.  He has been a passionate advocate of electric vehicles for some years and founded a company that became the UK’s largest independent electric bike retailer.  He bought his first electric car in 2006 and has been driving electric ever since.

The book is an indispensable guide for owners, prospective owners and anyone interested in these popular vehicles which are bringing electric cars into the mainstream. Covering all aspects of driving and ownership, including in-depth discussions of range, handling, real-life ownership stories and real-world economy tests, the book will prove an indispensable guide to anyone with an interest in the LEAF or EVs in general. The fascinating history of the LEAF, it’s unique Carwings feature and its environmental implications are also discussed in detail.

The Nissan LEAF is arguably the most talked about car in the world and has put electric vehicles on the map. Its status as the world’s most popular EV has been established since its hotly anticipated arrival in Japan and the US in 2010. In 2011 it won the World Car of the Year award at the New York International Auto Show, the first electric car to ever do so. In 2014, Nissan sold a record number of these popular cars. The acronym LEAF stands for Leading, Environmentally-friendly, Affordable Family car, and it has proven to be just that, and more, as this book illustrates.
